We recently replaced some old outdated high pressure sodium wallpacks with new long lasting induction lights for a customer in Boise, Idaho.  The high pressure sodium lights produced a yellow orange color of light with a very low color rendering index.   The high pressure sodium lights had a rated life of 24,000 hours, but there was significant loss of light output as the bulb aged.  The fixtures used 460 watts per fixture.

The induction lights  are drawing 110 watts.  So there is an energy savings of over 75%.  The induction lights have a rated lifetime of 100,000 hours.   The color rendering index (measure of light quality) is 85 for the induction and only 22 for the high pressure sodium.  One other advantage of the induction lights is that they are instant on, wheter the high pressure sodium lights take several minutes to warm up.

Below is a picture of the induction lights.  Notice the much better color.  The induction lights come with a 5 year warranty, but given their 100,000 hour rated life could easily last two to three times that length.  The owner will not be paying any lighting maintenance or repair charges on these lights for a long time.
